"Tristana" of Benito Perez Galdos. Olivia Molina, Diana Palazón, Pere Ponce and Alejandro Arestegui. Lope de Vega Theatre, Seville.
Olivia Molina, Diana Palazón, Pere Ponce and Alejandro Arestegui represent the adaptation of Eduardo Galán.
When his mother died, the orphan Tristana, and twenty-one, It is picked up by a family friend, Don Lope, which eventually becomes his guardian-seducer. Don Lope, of fifty-eight years, Don Juan is a decaying, retreating. After being seduced by Don Lope, the young protagonist rebels against the situation and soon meets and falls Horacio, a painter who does not accept the feminist spirit of Tristana. The painter has to be absent from Madrid for a long time and the relationship cools (although still idealizing Horacio Tristana). During this time, Tristana sick and loses, amputation, a leg. The young Horacio comes to visit more pity than feeling disappears. Nothing remains of the old love it ...
In this situation, Tristana is again tied to Don Lope. The painter eventually marrying another woman and Tristana change their dreams of becoming an actress or pianist in a sterile life and almost automaton, with God as the only “Object of Desire”, while we are witnessing the decline of a Don Lope, older and ruined every day. However, the transfer of some land from a family in exchange for regulating a scandalous relationship facilitates the work ends, ironically, in a marriage of convenience between the protagonists.
