18 cases of viral meningoencephalitis in the province of Seville.

It is stated that the grouping of cases corresponds to the area of:

Puebla del Río and Coria del Río, found within the Guadalquivir marshes area.

All necessary samples have been taken and sent to the reference laboratory, being at the moment four negative for the main bacteria and viruses.

As for PCR from Nile fever, Toscana and lymphocytic chorimeningitis virus, with IgM for Nile fever virus also negative.

We are waiting to know the result of the remaining.

Epidemiological surveys have also been carried out aimed at detecting some common link and the municipalities where these cases are concentrated have been informed.

They are currently 16 cases admitted, five of them in the Intensive Care Unit.

recommendations:

  • Use mosquito netting on windows and doors.
  • Try not to stay outdoors between dusk and dawn.
  • You have to try to leave the light off.
  • Correct body hygiene must be followed daily.
  • Avoid strong perfumes.
  • Wear clothing that covers the skin as much as possible and shake it before use if it has been laid outside.
  • Make proper use of repellants, strictly following the recommendations on the mode and frequency of use described by the manufacturer. If sun cream is used, you have to apply it first, let it absorb for twenty minutes and, so, apply mosquito repellent.
