Creo que la acción, la lucha directa contra el colonialismo hace más por los negros que una obra de teatro. También creo que el sindicato del personal doméstico hace más por las criadas que una obra de teatro. He tratado de escuchar una voz profunda que los negros y las demás criaturas no consiguieron hacer oír. Un crítico dijo que “las criadas no hablan así”. Hablan así. Pero sólo conmigo y a media noche. Si me dijeran que los negros no hablan así, contestaría que escuchamos más o menos eso si pegamos la oreja a su corazón. Debemos saber escuchar lo que no se formula.” Jean Genet
