A prism is an irregular polyhedron consisting of two equal bases and an indeterminate number of lateral faces called parallelograms.. Prisma is the title of a program whose bases are the transverse flute and the piano, and whose parallelograms are a series of pieces that, played in chronological order, show different faces of what has come to be considered contemporary music, with different degrees of experimentalism, through a series of highly personal compositional styles ranging from the unorthodox dodecaphonism of Frank Martin to the minimalism of Steve Reich and Philip Glass, passing through the integral serialism of Messiaen, Barber's neo-romanticism, the “trans-avant-garde” style of Castillo and the “tintinnabuli” of Arvo Pärt.
