Pepe Cobo Exhibition "Flores de Lurigancho"

In 1565 King Philip II established a trade route, Route the call Manila, that connected the city with Sevilla, through Acapulco and Veracruz. This happened three times a year, while crossing lasted. Inside boats that were considered exotic objects were transported, spices, furniture, canvas, etc, all of great value and passed into the hands of people with high purchasing power, wherever the goods arrived. One of the discharge ports was Acapulco, these treasures being paid with money from the Viceroyalty of Peru and Mexico, thereby promoting the emergence of local merchants who thereby trafcaron.

"The Drape Manila" was one of those objects reached relevance and influence its slenderness, delicacy , fnura and aristocratic beauty that was gradually spreading to popular culture, resulting in various elements such as fabrics, cushions, polleras, costumes made with modest materials ... Its validity is now very noticeable and its aftermath in the past as a suit and popular garment, verbigracia in "The Tapadas" in Peru during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries .

This exhibition is the result of the discovery of a set of elements represented in garments iconográfcos, objects, pictures, of different applications with which Pepe Cobo intended to express a new approach to the crossroads of the blending of cultures, besides facilitating the same objects have a life. Therefore fragments of original Manila Shawls, selectively manipulated, are placed in the hands of the inmates at Lurigancho Prison in Lima are those who made thread by thread and day to day finishing these tapestries. Thus art becomes a liberating element to the extent that defendants redeem part of his sentence for the days worked. And also as therapeutic and elevation value of the work done, unfree who somehow manage to see light through a creative activity.
