One of the most attractive legends has as its protagonist Doña María Coronel, daughter of the cupbearer of King Don Pedro I. The monarch ordered the death of Doña María's father and husband, but he ended up falling madly in love with her. The widow decided to retire to a convent, which did not prevent Don Pedro from persecuting her insistently. One of the versions of the legend assures that the widow, harassed by frequent visits from the king, boiling oil was spilled to disfigure his face and put an end to Don Pedro's claims. Since then, the incorrupt body of Doña María Coronel rests in the choir of the Monastery of Santa Inés.
