Today, the renovation project for Velázquez's Birthplace has received authorization to begin the work that will guarantee its preservation and which will be the first step in the conversion of this 16th century building.

The project, designed by the architect Manuel Sánchez-Ramos, unanimously approved last 3 June in the Local Heritage Commission and ratified today by the executive commission of the Management, restore certain sections of the house.

It will allow mobility throughout the premises, at the same time that it protects original elements of this house built in the middle of the Sevillian golden century and considered by some experts one of the oldest houses in Seville.

Velázquez's Birthplace is a 100% private financing project that has the support of the Centro de Estudios Europa Hispánica (CEEH), from the Factum Foundation together with Factum Arte and the Skene Catling de la Peña Architects studio.

The ultimate goal of the project drivers, led by the writer and cultural manager Enrique Bocanegra and the engineer Enrique Piñeyro, is that the Birthplace of Velázquez can be opened to the public in 2021.
