Andalusia will have rapid tests "as effective as PCR"

The Ministry of Health and Families of the Junta de Andalucía has acquired one million rapid tests of Abbott antigens that will arrive in Andalusia this week.

Avoiding the performance of a PCR in case of obtaining a positive result given its reliability that is around the 100% in the first three days of the onset of symptoms and 90% from the fourth.

The necessary sample is nasopharyngeal exudate obtained by a healthcare professional.

The method of analysis is immunochromatography, similar to rapid antibody tests, that allows to obtain results in 15 minutes and does not require reading instruments, so it can be performed outside the laboratory.

In addition, This test detects the presence of coronavirus, so it is indicated to perform it at the beginning of infection symptoms.

"These tests will be used mainly in Primary Care and Emergencies; as well as in socio-sanitary residences and for health professionals ".

The autonomous community is studying the purchase of other molecular analyzes in saliva samples, that would allow to obtain results in a short period of time.
