The Lindsay Kemp Company brings ‘Kemp Dances to the Lope de Vega Theater in Seville: Inventions and Reincarnations', a proposal in which the exceptional dancer, actor and choreographer is reincarnated in new pieces while reinventing some of the most classic of his repertoire.
What is KEMP DANCES?
In the years 70 and 80 Lindsay Kemp together with the Lindsay Kemp Company scandalized and amazed at the same time, onto the world stage with an extraordinarily heterodox crossover of styles, that mixed theater, mime and dance, tradition and experimentation, subtle irony and powerful sensations.
Then (like now) the magic of Kemp shows, revolved mainly around his very personal charisma as a performer, also in roles of women, man, puppet or any other.
His presence on stage always transcended any genre or category, how is he still doing today, over seventy years.
He continues with storytelling through his timeless dance, ageless and can do it because the only rules you must follow are yours and the only technique you must keep intact is to convey emotions. "An immobility charged with emotions is worth more than a hundred mechanical gestures" always affirms Kemp.
KEMP DANCES, is a series of "inventions and reincarnations", ie new creations mixed with some classic pieces recreated and revised today. A spectacular and exciting mosaic of fantastic characters and tales, performed on stage with his collaborators - new and long-standing- with a powerful eclectic mix of music and narration, and as always happens in the creations of this mountebank of the soul, there are fixed elements but always a constant reinvention of stories and gestures.
The show offers from a dreamlike identification with Violetta and La Callas in Memoria de una Traviata, even a journey inside Nijinsky's mystical madness, the legendary dancer of the Russian Ballets… to end with El Ángel, a soul that transcends any identity to become the symbol of the human essence, of rebirth and hope.
There are also two new pieces: My life, created by the great Belgian choreographer Luc Bouy and The Woman in Red.
This new show offers, as usual, the spell of Lindsay Kemp with a powerful language and always accessible to all. It is above all a rare opportunity to see a "sacred monster" of the 20th century theater who loves, still burns and flies over the stage of the 21st century.
