Exposure: The sea of ​​cetaceans in Andalusia – Sevilla House of Science

The meeting of the warm current of the Mediterranean Sea with the cold Atlantic Ocean makes the Strait of Gibraltar in one of the most biodiverse regions on the planet: in waters up to ten different species of whales and dolphins live. The exhibition presents a tour of cetacean species that inhabit the Mediterranean.

The exhibition features replicas of cetaceans in synthetic resins and real skeletons that allow visitors a direct approach to the anatomy of these species. They also know details like that cetaceans are not fish but mammals that suckle their young; although live in water, They breathe via lungs using holes or blowholes having overhead; its guidance system is unique among marine animals: A similar echolocation sonar of submarines; sleep with half the brain awake to breathe without choking; and they have one of the largest and most complex brains of the animal kingdom.

With the collaboration of Almonte Town Hall, the Doñana Biological Station (EBD-CSIC) and CIRCE (Conservation, Information and Research on Cetaceans).
